Xiaomi president Lin Bin took to Chinese social media system Weibo to tease a sneak peek at a smartphone with a meant 48MP digicam. He did not offer any really hard information – like which mobile phone we will see the digicam in – but noted that the mobile phone it is embedded in will be launched in January.
Xiaomi’s mobile phone cameras have lagged driving other smartphones, so this seems like an earnest endeavor to leap forward: if the mobile phone bearing this 48MP digicam without a doubt arrives in January, it will be the very first to do so with that many megapixels.
For reference, Nokia holds the latest report with its 41MP Lumia 1020, even though the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro both of those element 40MP key cameras.
A lot more megapixels, few rumors
The higher pixel rely is evidently an attention-grabbing tidbit, but devoid of much more detail on the digicam tech or the mobile phone it is arriving on, we can only speculate what the ultimate product or service will glance like. For example, even though the image is as well close-cropped to establish how many lenses it will have, but given the nearby quantity rocker, it looks to be in the upper-left corner of the system.
That usually means there is certainly a opportunity it could follow the two-lens vertical setup of the Xiaomi Mi 8 – in which situation, the 48MP digicam could get there on the Mi nine, though we have not heard any rumors suggesting its imminent arrival. Even further, this image does not line up with a previously leaked render, as PocketLint pointed out.
Which 48MP sensor Xiaomi is utilizing is a different mystery: It could be the Sony IMX586 (declared back in July) or Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GM1 (declared in October).
Won’t be able to hold out to get your hands on a 48MP digicam? All we can do is hold out until January.
- Talking of January, will not forget about CES 2019 – it commences on January 8!
